Teva and Barr Pharmaceuticals

Ocella is a birth control drug considered to be a “fourth generation drug” because it contains drospirenone, a synthetic progestin that prevents pregnancy. It is also used to ease the symptoms connected to some premenstrual disorders, as well as a treatment for mild cases of acne. Ocella is actually a generic form of the birth control pill called Yaz or Yasmin and it is sold by a company called Barr Pharmaceuticals. Teva Pharmaceuticals purchased Barr in 2008.
