Lawsuits against the makers of NuvaRing have been filed to compensate women who have been injured after using this contraceptive device. NuvaRing is a vaginal birth control ring produced by Organon that has caused life-threatening complications.
Deep vein thrombosis is a condition in which blood clots form and impede the passage of blood to some of the veins in the body. DVT is painful and causes inflammation and swelling in the affected area. NuvaRing has also been associated with cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and stroke. Blood clots in the lungs which cause severe breathing difficulties, otherwise known as pulmonary embolisms, have also been associated with NuvaRing use.
There have been more than 37 fatalities associated with NuvaRing use. Hundreds of women have suffered severe damage to their health after using NuvaRing. For some of these women, this damage is permanent.
It is important that all women who use NuvaRing become familiar with this device’s complications. If you use NuvaRing and are beginning to feel unwell, take the following steps:
• Get emergency medical treatment
• Discontinue use of NuvaRing and begin using another birth control method
• Consult a personal injury attorney to gain knowledge of your rights and to ascertain whether you would like to file a claim
Even though NuvaRing has been on the market since 2001, it is only recently that this device has caused lawsuits against the manufacturer, Organon. Robert Bozicev of New Jersey filed the first lawsuit against NuvaRing in March of 2008 after his wife died from using the device in December 2007.
At 32 years of age, Bozicev’s wife, Jackie Kelly Bozicev, experienced a pulmonary embolism which led to fatal, severe seizures. Jackie was allegedly in optimal health before using NuvaRing, according to her husband, so it follows that the device is responsible for her death.
Bozicev is seeking compensation from Organon for their careless and irresponsible supply of this device. The lawsuit claims that Organon was aware of the dangers of using NuvaRing and did not warn the FDA or the public of them.
Since March of 2008, 50 other plaintiffs have filed claims against Organon after their use of NuvaRing. These cases are either still being resolved or their results are not being made known to the public.
In order to file a NuvaRing lawsuit, afflicted women or their families ought to schedule a consultation with a qualified personal injury attorney experienced in handling NuvaRing cases. During this free consultation, potential plaintiffs can:
• Gain knowledge about their rights.
• Be advised about their specific case.
• Learn about their chances for winning their case.
• Be informed about the procedure for filing a personal injury lawsuit.
In order to support affected women in their fight to win compensation, many attorneys will provide contingency legal services, which means the plaintiffs will be able to delay payment for these services until after their cases have been won.
NuvaRing cases will be time-consuming, but plaintiffs should persist. If they do so, they can expect compensation to help them with their medical expenses and their emotional and physical suffering.
Anyone who has personally or has a loved one who has suffered injury or death caused by the use of the NuvaRing contraceptive device should contact an attorney to discuss their potential case. Our lawyers will assess your case and work on your behalf to compensate you for your losses.
